Summary:
Responsible for assisting individuals and companies prepare and file their tax returns appropriately while following legal guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prepare, complete and file tax returns for individuals and companies.
· Prepare tax forms and documents.
· Monitor and respond to tax authority communications.
· Offer advice and suggestions on reducing costs and improving profits.
· Assist clients with tax audits and other needs.
· Identify any taxes owed or to be received.
· Eliminate, minimize, or defer tax payments using proper regulations.
· Consults with clients to develop a basic understanding of their financial affairs and the scope of their tax liabilities.
· Analyses previous tax returns and financial documents to identify missing or incomplete information or documentation.
· Analyses all supplied financial information for accuracy.
· Uses the appropriate accounting software or system to prepare tax returns.
· Calculates taxes owed or refunds due to client, consults tax law publications for guidance on unusual situations.
· Submits tax returns to senior staff for review.
· Presents approved returns to clients.
· Files tax returns for clients.
· Maintains understanding and knowledge of changes in tax law and regulations by reading professional literature or attending tax seminars and training courses.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
· Detail oriented & ability to multi-task.
· Strong accounting, analytical and organizational skills.
· Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated software.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, required.
· 1 years’ experience in public accounting tax experience, preferred.
· Experience preparing individual tax return, preferred.
Physical/Mental/Visual Demands and Work Environment:
· This job is conducted in an office work environment, sitting most of the time, working on a computer.
· Must be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally.
· Some travel may be required.
Work Schedule:
· Typically, Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.
· Additional hours are required during peak season.
